John Gretzinger-Photographer

John Gretzinger was an art major at the University of Nebraska and opened his first photographic studio in Golden, Colorado in 1975. He shoots a wide variety of subjects including landscape, travel and commercial photography. His facility with people is apparent in his mostly high-key, upbeat portrait and glamour work.

For fun, he likes to make photos in his new home town, Bandon, Oregon. Bandon is a small coastal village with rather spectacular Pacific Northwest scenery.

John went to Los Angeles as a musician in 1980. "It was actually the end of my music career, although I didn't know it at the time. I wound up working in films as a scenic artist." He painted sets for movies and TV commercials. Out of this experience he developed an interest in the painted faux finishes that became very popular in the 1990's. He became a master faux-finish painter and a design and decorating consultant for high end residential and commercial renovations.

A purely pragmatic interest in computers in the 1990's led to some startling revelations about the state of the art in photography and rekindled that interest. He was thrilled and amazed at the enormous changes in photography that had occurred in his 10 year absence. "It's great! I do everything on computers now. The best thing about it is that I can make my own prints now.....right on my desk-top. No smelly chemicals like it used to be. And the additional control photographers have now is very exciting."

Relocating to the beautiful Oregon coast in 2003 has really inspired John in his landscape and nature work again. Photographer, faux painter and musician, John also designs and builds beautiful handmade furniture. His most recent photographic work can be seen at www.Bandonpix.com. "This is really fun again. I live in such a beautiful place now. Thank you for looking at my work and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it.
